Using podcasts is definitely helpful and useful for language learners, especially because they can get access to audio and video files easily at home or anywhere that has a computer and internet. I found it really interesting searching for a variety of podcasts.

What I came up with is "Phone Conversation". If teachers can make some audio files that have authentic American phone conversation, it will be very good for learners to know about how people talk to each other on the phone. Learners encounter a lot of situations that they have to call somewhere or somebody in English. For example, there are situations such as calling airport, calling business like asking stores about opening time, making reservation for dinner at a restaurant, hotel room reservation, calling American friends or teachers, and calling student office at school.
If learners can learn how to talk on the phone in English through listening to the authentic phone conversation in the audio files, they will feel much easier to talk on the phone with American people. Also, it will be useful for learners to learn how to open and end the phone conversation.  Cheesy

This is an excellent idea. Grin Actually, I took a class with Professor Andrea Golato. She is from German Department and one of the task that her students have to do is a real phone call and set up a reservation. In order to complete this task she ask to another native speaker. So, other person is the receptionist of the hotel. Then the student call to the phone number that she gives to them. She also gives them some requirements for that reservation. So the students have to negotiate with the receptionist.
I think that your idea is an excellent activity for pre-activity of this other activity. Smiley
