Resources for teaching reading
« on: April 18, 2017, 06:19:01 PM »
Here is a link to a reading website for teaching beginning level students: http://www.esolcourses.com/content/topics/famouspeople/reading.html
It is mainly about American culture, including American history, politics, holidays, etc. It has worksheets and practices. And the video on this website is very clear and helpful for beginning learners.

http://strangenewsstories.eslreading.org/home/sitemap.html--this website has a good selection of strange news which will have people ask: "did they really happen?". Example topics include animal heroism and dumb burglars. This kind of strange stories will interest and engage students in classroom. It also has exercises and questions following some stories.

Reading Rockets: http://www.readingrockets.org/reading-topics/content-area-literacy is a great resource for reading teachers. It has a great variation of resources like strategies, reading standards, for teachers to design their lessons. Most importantly, it has videos showing how the teacher use activities like jigsaw, thinking aloud, in classroom and how students react.
