Title: Using sites like "brainyquotes" to inspire and inform writing
Post by: Evan Branson on May 13, 2016, 06:20:47 PM

This is probably not what this thread is for but..I always like to look through websites like brainyquotes.com to read famous quotes by famous people. It turns out that a lot of people were born before me and have much better thought-quality and erudition, general intelligence, more life experience, better humor, etc.
I have assigned students to find a quote from this site and analyse it as a presentation for a class. I have also asked students in spoken classes to come to a class prepared with quotes on various subjects like love and money, etc, and have organized group discussions based on the quotes they have gathered. I think this strategy would work in a writing class too. Students could post quotes that they like on a forum and expound, comment on them in a communicative dialogue, group discussion.
