Title: Intensive Reading
Post by: svsnkrn2 on April 16, 2019, 11:43:31 PM
Intensive reading is when students take a closer look at one passage to make sure they understand it completely (Brown & Lee, 2015). This process "calls students' attention to grammatical forms, discourse markers, and other surface structure details for the purpose of understanding literal meaning, implications, rhetorical relationships, and the like" (Brown & Lee, 2015, p. 409). Attached is a worksheet that will prompt intensive reading through a poem. Since poems are harder to understand at first glance, students can use their intensive readings skills to find the deeper meaning. Since poems can be on the smaller side, the can really look at the reading line by line and see how each line affects each others to create a much larger concept.
