summarizing the article for different audiences
« on: February 23, 2006, 07:20:59 PM »
A post-reading activity that the students could do is summarizing the article and giving brief presentations - but for different audiences. For instance, the class could be divided up into different groups, and each group could decide on a particular audience. One group might want to give a presentation to an imaginary elementary school class. Another group might want to try to design a presentation for college students. Both would be challenging tasks because the groups would have to really understand the content matter, and would also have to monitor the way they explain it appropriately to their audience. This activity would link reading with other skills such as summarizing, writing with an awareness of audience, and also giving presentations.
