Useful website and extension tool for learning vocabulary
« on: February 12, 2016, 01:00:05 PM »
I tried many vocabulary apps and online tools when I was learning English, and I found the below two are very helpful and easy to use, especially for students who are struggling with inadequate vocabulary but have to read lots of English materials.

The first one is a website https://www.vocabulary.com/. Once you sign up, you can play with this website in many ways such as using it as a regular online dictionary, creating your own word-learning list etc. The best part of this website is that after you look up a word, you can choose to add it to your learning list. You can also type a list of words that you want to learn, then his website will create learning activities about those words for you. If you are teaching an article or book, you can copy and paste the particular context you are going to teach, and website will pick out important word for students to learn. It's Pretty cool.

The second tool is a google chrome extension called Biscuit for Chrome (You can search it in Chrome Web Store) it's not free, though :(, but it's not that expensive. Once you install it on Chrome, whenever you come across a unknown word, move your cursor on that word and it'll show you the definition. You can also add this word to a list for later to review.

Hope you guys find this useful. :D

I love this website Lexie! Thank you. I am tutoring 5 students now and they were asking me about ways to grow their vocabulary. I can recommend them this side now, THANKS! ;)
