Speed reading materials (1,000 word level)

In the following pdf file, you can find 20 passages for speed reading:
http://nflrc.hawaii.edu/rfl/April2015/discussion/macalister.pdf
Each of the 20 passages is written within the most 1,000 frequently used English words. Each passage is 550 word long and has 10 comprehension questions. The authors suggest that the target students are those who know at least the first 2,000 frequently used words. I think speed reading is easily implemented and useful in that it can improve studentsí reading fluency as well as raise their awareness of their own reading speed. I would use speed reading for, for example, students who are only used to intensive reading and have rarely practiced reading quickly by not paying attention to every single word. The instructions and suggested usages are also in the pdf.
