Pre-reading-->background information
« on: February 15, 2017, 02:43:13 PM »
When I was a sophomore, I took an intensive reading course. We usually spent two week in an article, so our professor had plenty of time for teaching each step of reading (pre/while/post). He always asked us to teach a mini-lesson or to prepare for a presentation on the pre-reading day for each article. I remember my group directed a mini play about ordering food abroad as a pre-reading activity, and the article we were reading was right about different food cultures across world. We really had fun and learned something relevant in that pre-reading activity.
A pre-reading activity could be an awareness raising activity or background knowledge learning activity. This would help students better understand the reading.
