Post-it Note Vocabulary Game
« on: April 22, 2017, 03:45:41 PM »
I cannot stress how much my students enjoy this game! It gets them up and moving. It is a good way to review definitions, but I'm sure it can be adapted to have the students write it in a sentence. What I do is split my class into two evenly-matched teams. On the blackboard, I put all the post-it notes that have different vocabulary words written on them. I stand facing the blackboard and each team lines up in a queue next to me also facing the blackboard. Only one member from each team can play at any one time. The other members need to be quiet. I will then read out loud a definition of one of the words. They have to find the word and then run and grab it before the other team member does. If neither of them know the word, they need to go back to the back of the line. I stress that they cannot touch each other; they just need to be quick. This is a really fun game, but I do not use a handout besides writing the definitions down beforehand.
