Vocabulary Analysis and Discovery Activity
« on: April 22, 2017, 03:52:39 PM »
COCA can be a great resource for helping your students learn more about how vocabulary words should be used. This is an activity that I do with them after they have completed a vocabulary writing activity. In class, my students will write some of the vocabulary words in context either in a paragraph through a prompt or write a conversation using these vocabulary words. Then, I collect their writing. I see which words they are struggling with and I correct the grammar mistakes. Because we do not have access to a computer lab, I use COCA for the students and create a vocabulary activity using their mistakes and misunderstandings. In the following class, I have my students complete the worksheet and write the words using the correct collocations or meaning. Then, they need to correct their writing from the previous day. This should be much easier because we would have just finished the vocabulary activity. I will provide one of my vocabulary activities along with the key.
