I think a great way to have students start writing dialogue and forming cohesive stories is to do a cmic book activity. Having students come up with a story, writing a brief summary, then draw out a few pages filling in the dialogue as they go. This would be better for younger students, and would give them something fun to do. It would also be good for kids that learn better when they can see where their story is going, and are able to physically represent it.
