The video below is an example of a conference gone wrong!  Perhaps it will give some ideas of how a teacher-student conference should "not" work!!

Well. This female student is really very "hard" to deal with, however, no matter how persuasive she is, she can't say that she missed 38 classes because she lost the printed syllabus.  >:(
Ok, It reminds me to give Ss an E-copy of syllabus at the beginning of each semester as well  ;)

Very funny but taught me a lot.
