This one-page article from U.S. Catholic gives a brief overview of Tolkien's life and literary contributions he made through Bible translation, as well as fantasy writing.  This article might be used in class to give students background information about the author of The Hobbit and "prime the pump" for further analysis of The Hobbit in relation to the context in which it was written.
