Teaching news video summary technique
« on: November 30, 2008, 01:16:10 AM »
This website is about teaching students how to summarize a short CNN/BBC video report in 5 sentences.

? student level: high intermediate and above
? materials: a CNN/BBC video report, between 2-3 minutes ideally
? class time: one hour or more

This website gives the reasons why it came to focus on summarizing news video, answering following questions: 1) why use video in the classroom; 2) why summarize a video report; 3) why summarize a video report in 5 sentences; and 4) what is a summary.

From my experience, I have noticed that with the coming of globalization and world economy, many people, as sort of the world citizens, more passionately want to know about the world news, for example, international affairs including local politics, economy, culture, history and so on. As a result, this site will be helpful for people who want to know how to improve summary skills, as well as listening skills.
