We decided that this article would be for high school or college students. Therefore, in the post-activity, I would like to have students make some oral productions exercising their synthesizing and creating ability.

For the post-reading activity, I will ask students to make a short video (around 5 minutes) based on the prompt "If you were to find a potentially habitable new planet, how would you describe it? (you can imitate the article video)". But they will talk to their classmates for potential ideas first before they start filming videos.

They should be able to have some ideas by this point after working with their group work discussing the habitability of Proxima b during reading. I would encourage them to first brainstorm with their group members and share ideas in class after reading the article. If time allows, maybe put down some keynotes and outlines for video ideas, and then finish the filming part at home individually. They should upload their video to the course website before the next class and be ready to share.

Evaluating- After reading the article, compare your predictions that you did in pre-reading activities, and compare the differences/ similarities between them.
Creating- Reviewing the unfamiliar vocabularies and the terminology that they selected during reading, assign an equal number of vocabularies to each group, and ask them to make a picture dictionary on these terms.
Creating- take a field trip to a space center, reflect on the materials they learned through the article and new topics that they discovered at the space center. Write a short reflection.

Post-reading activity for Sara, Mengjia, and Marianne

After the students have revisited and revised their lists of words, the class will debrief and discuss how they were able to distinguish between words that were absolutely necessary to know and words that they felt ok just guessing the meaning of.

Once they have finished with this debrief, the students will complete a creative writing assignment imagining that they landed on Proxima b. To assess students' comprehension of the article, they should include a description of and details about the planet from the article. For example, they might mention a sun, as the article suggests that some of the stars near Proxima b are "sun-like." They might also encounter aliens or exotic plants, as of course, the article says it could be habitable.

During reading:

Our group lesson was geared towards Middle Schoolers in grades 6-8.

Our idea for a postreading activity was to engage students in a discussion using the new vocabulary and then have them each write about something they enjoyed learning about during the reading. The story would be required to use some of the vocabulary that we focused on in the prereading as well as during the reading.
