Writing Movie Reviews
« on: March 31, 2015, 12:16:37 PM »
This is an activity/lesson that I came up with in a small group activity during a session at TESOL about using authentic videos in class.

  • Show students clips of Siskel & Ebert movie reviews and have them read movie reviews for different movies.
  • Give groups/pairs of students a several movies to choose from. Students will watch the movies and eventually write their own review.
  • Before students write their own reviews, they'll learn how to summarize the plot without giving away the ending (No spoilers!), analyze the film, and evaluate.
  • After writing the reviews, students can read the reviews of their classmates and discuss which movies they would want to (not)see based on the review.
This could be expanded into an entire unit and adapted for the level of the students.
