Technology: ( for vocabulary learning

According to the website, “ teaches you words by systematically exposing you to a wide array of question types and activities that will help you understand all the meanings and nuances of every word you're learning.” Its goal is for learners to not only learn a word but to master it. With that goal in mind, the website provides typical features that an online dictionary would, and it has a short etymology and a mini-corpus. However, its most interesting and main feature is that a user can upload a word list or text and the site will create different activities so that a learner can master the target words. It basically treats learning vocabulary as a game. Abrams & Wash (2014) found that the competition and rewards created by the gamification feature of this tool helped to motivate most of their students. Thus, this can be a useful tool for teachers (who want to assign their class a unit vocabulary list) and individual learners (who are preparing for a test or just want to improve their vocabulary).

This looks like a fun way to learn vocabulary. Studying vocabulary can be very tedious and can be hard to get a sense of the word without context. It would be nice if they gave some sample sentences showing how it's used as well. The explanations do seem really nice and detailed, but may be intimidating for lower level students.
